Give Thanks, handmade card by Jen Shults

Hi crafty friends! Today is day 2 of Taylored Expressions September Sneak Peeks and today we have new fall themed goodies to share with you! I wish there were more hours in a day – I want to use them all!

Give Thanks, handmade card by Jen Shults

Both of my projects today use Fall Florals. I LOVE this stamp set. It’s so fun and coordinates perfectly with Fresh Florals! I also used the new Playful Patterns Harvest 6×6 Paper Pack (LOVE these paper packs).

Give Thanks, handmade card by Jen Shults

To start my card I cut a piece of Playful Patterns paper and die cut a circle out of the middle using Stitched Circle Stacklets. I cut a piece of Sugar Cube to fit behind the circle and stamped the sentiment in the new (and gorgeous) Mulled Wine ink. The flowers around the circle are stamped using Mulled Wine, Pumpkin, Dijon, Sweet Basil and Chocolate Truffle ink. I used a few of the new Matched Harvest Sequins to add a little sparkle.

My next card also uses Fall Florals with the same color palette but with a different layout. I just love this rich fall color scheme!Give Thanks, handmade card by Jen Shults For this card I made the focal point of the card a spray of flowers from Fall Florals with the sunflower as the center. I added a circle of gingham green and Mulled Wine behind it for a bit of contrast. I mounted this on Dijon cardstock with the sentiment stamped at the bottom. I have plans to make a set of these for my mom! 🙂

Hi everyone! It’s time for Taylored Expressions September Sneak Peeks and this month we have such a fantastic release to share with you! We have a TON of cute birthday goodies for you because it’s TE’s 8th Birthday!!! (Look below for some fun giveaway information!!)

Today I’m using a bunch of new birthday goodies. 🙂 First up is one of my favorites – Word Search – Birthday Background. I just love the idea of this stamp. It can be used as a plain text background stamp or you can get creative and find ways to highlight the words in the word search! I paired this fun background stamp. The sentiments are from the new Wish Big Stamp & Die Combo. These stamps are an incentive set this month!! Be sure to check out the details on the TE Blog.

To highlight the word search I stamped it tone on tone on Lemon Meringue cardstock with Lemon Meringue ink. I used a Versamarker to circle all the birthday words and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. I LOVE how it turned out!

My second card features a brand new set of Watercolor Panels!!! I love TE’s watercolor panels. I keep a set in my coloring cart and whenever I get the urge to just color something I have something ready to go. This birthday set is so fun and will definitely be my go to for coloring now!

Happy Bloomin' Birthday, handmade card by Jen Shults

I started my card by coloring the watercolor panel with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and a waterbrush. I paired this with a Lollipop cardstock panel embossed with the Bubbles Embossing folder and a little flower cut from TE’s 100% Wool Felt using Bloomers 2 and Mini Bloomers.

This card was so quick and easy to put together and will be a great addition to my birthday card stash!!

I everyone! Today we have a new Share Joy Challenge by Taylored Expressions. We have a fun inspiration photo and sketch for you. I used the inspiration photo this time. I think I may have to go back and use the sketch though because I love it!

Master of the Grill by Jen Shults

For the summer bbq theme I used Little Bits Grill and sponged a background using Build a Scene – Rolling Clouds with Peapod and Cookie Monster ink. The sun is die cut with Build a Scene Sunshine from Lemon Meringue and Candy Corn cardstock.

The grill was die cut using Little Bits Grill from Oreo, Metallic Neutrals, and Lemon Meringue cardstock. I added a bit of grass to the bottom cut using Wispy Grass Border from Peapod and Granny Smith. I mounted the card on a Toffee cardbase with a small Sugar Cube border.

It's Party Time by Jen Shults

It's Party Time by Jen Shults

Morning crafty friends!! We have a new Share Joy Challenge for you this week! It’s been a crazy busy week around the Shult’s house and I’m ready for the weekend. Both kids started back to school this week and I headed back to work last week (we all had our official first day of school yesterday!). So it’s been a blur of lunches and backpacks and sleepy kiddos in the morning. 🙂

(Pretend I’m awake enough to put a clever segue here.) Our Share Joy Challenge this week is a color challenge and sketch. I have to admit I’ve been dying to play with this color challenge and it gave me a good excuse to use the new Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate so it was win-win!

It's Party Time by Jen Shults

I pulled out these cute monkeys from the Monkey Business Stamp & Die Combo to use with the color combo. I love how adorable these little guys are! Not to mention this made for a super fast and super bold card. 🙂

My card is all ready for birthday party we have coming up for my nephew (we share a birthday!!). 🙂

Hi friends!! Today we have a new Share Joy Challenge and it’s one of my favorites – sketch &/or clean and simple. I love this challenge as it pushes me to work outside my comfort zone a little bit! I chose to go with the CAS challenge though I’m walking a pretty thin line on this one I think, lol!

My card started out with a little inspiration from my friend Laurie who shared a fun ombre sentiment technique earlier this week. I didn’t exactly follow her demo but it did get me thinking about all the gorgeous new TE ink colors and which ones I might combine together to make a fun bright birthday card. To get started I blended Cookie Monster, Lollipop and Candy Corn on a sheet of Sugar Cube cardstock and die cut as many of the celebrate sentiments from it as I could. The celebrate die is/was a freebie with purchase from Taylored Expressions. (These rotate so they are random with each order and they are always fabulous!!)

Celebrate by Jen Shults

I was on a roll with these and ended up making 3. I actually had a fourth sentiment but ran out of time to make a fourth card. 🙁 From there I die cut a bunch of Little Bits Balloons from Sugar Cube cardstock and sponged them with the same ink colors to coordinate with the sentiment. I stamped It’s Your Birthday from In & Out Birthday on Oreo cardstock with Sugar Cube ink using my MISTI and heat embossed it with white embossing powder for a little extra pop. I die cut the diagonal stripe border from Skinny Mini Borders out of Sugar Cube to fit under the sentiment. I used the string dies from Party Time to add strings to the balloons and to finish off I added a few clear sequins around the balloons. I attached these to Sugar Cube card bases with foam tape and I was done! I got a fun trio of cards finished in about an hour and a half!

These birthday cards are headed off in a number of different directions! One is for a friend of my daughters, one is for a colleague and one is for one of my friends!

Happy Birthday by Jen Shults

Hi everyone! I hope you are having a fantastic week so far! I am gearing up to head back to work next week. We start teacher meetings on Wednesday! I can’t believe how fast the summer has flown by. My daughter will start 7th grade this year and she is super excited. My son with start 4th grade, he’s a little less excited but I think that’s mostly because he’s going to really miss his teacher from last year!

Happy Birthday by Jen Shults

We have a new Share Joy Challenge this week from Taylored Expressions. We have a sketch and tic-tac-toe and I went with the sketch but I modified it just a little. I ended up turning it on it’s side. I created a pair of simple birthday cards using Bold Brushstrokes and an inking technique I learned from my 12 year old! I’ll be posting a more detailed post next week about this technique along with a video.

Happy Birthday by Jen Shults

These cards were very quick to put together. I’ve been trying to make pairs of cards when I make simpler cards to beef up my stash of frequently used card types. Birthday cards are always in short supply around here and this simple design lends itself to any recipient.

I used Rainbow Brights 6×6 paper pack for my dot papers as a foundation. I splattered a bit of ink on watercolor cardstock for the white layer and cut 1/4 strips of scrap cardstock to lay behind the sentiments. I created an ombre look by blending Pumpkin and Candy Corn together and Strawberry Milkshake and Lollipop TE Inks together. To add just a bit more accent I used Little Bits Balloons and the balloon strings from Party Time.

Here’s a look at the challenge for this week! I hope you will join us!!

Critter Halloween Cards by Jen Shults

Hi everyone! Today is the day you’ve been waiting for! Taylored Expressions August Release Day is finally here! You can find all of the new goodies here at the TE Store.

Today I have a set of cute cards to share with you along with a video on how to create the colorful scenic background and the rest of the card. My card uses previously release Critters In Costume and the new dies that coordinate with that set. I used the fun new Spooky Clouds to create these really quick fun cards.

(The volume is a little soft on the video so you may need to crank up the volume.)

I love how easy it is to get different looks with watercolor backgrounds and they are never the same twice as you can see between my two cards. 🙂

I just love this little cat! I reminds me of our cat – she’s into everything and very curious!

You can see the background took on a bit of different shape with this one and my splattering was a little more controlled.

TE August Release Week: Hello Friend

Hello Friend by Jen Shults

Hello Friend by Jen Shults

Hi everyone! It’s day three of Taylored Expressions August Release Week and today I’m sharing a project using a brand new embossing folder from TE, the Ah-maze-ing Embossing Folder. This may be my new love in the embossing folder world. It’s a gorgeous light pattern that isn’t overwhelming and it takes to being faux letterpress embossed BEAUTIFULLY! As I was making this card I decided to ink up the inside of the embossing folder with Plum Punch on a whim. It was just sitting there on my desk looking at me and I had to try it. I am so glad it tried it! Now I need to try it with every other color of ink and cardstock, lol. I do have a few tips for you if you decide to do this with Taylor’s gorgeous inks…

Tip 1: Prime the Embossing Folder

As with anything that’s been manufactured there is a bit of residue left from that process and it leaves the plastic a bit slick and not all that receptive of ink. I cleaned my embossing folder first with a bit of Dawn dishsoap (the original blue) and dried it before inking it up and it inked up beautifully.

Tip 2: Clean Up

This embossing folder has a ton of gorgeous detail and that means there are lots of nooks and crannies for ink to hide out. To clean out the embossing folder I used a very small drop of soap, water and a toothbrush. After it was clean I folded a paper towel in half and ran the embossing folder through my die cut machine to dry it and get any remaining ink.

Hello Friend by Jen Shults

I used Fresh Florals and the coordinating dies for the flowers (these were actually left overs from a previous project). The sentiment is from Free Spirit, stamped in Oreo and die cut with Stitched Banner Stacklets.

Halloween Tags by Jen Shults

Hi everyone! It’s day two of Taylored Expressions August Sneak Peeks! Today I have to Halloween gift giving projects to share with you both using Bag It & Tag It with some new products! My first project is a set of tags that I haven’t quite decided who I’m going to use them for. I can’t decide if I want to use them for my kids and their cousins Halloween goodies or if I want to save them for special treats for the kids teachers. My daughter is moving up to 7th grade this year so she will have 8 different teachers – if I go that route I better get crackin’ on more tags!!

I started the tags with a base cut from Tag Stacklets 2 and Oreo cardstock. I layered with with another Tag Stacklets 2 tag cut from Playful Patterns – Halloween 6×6 Paper Pack. Next I stamped two images from Bag It & Tag It on Candy Corn and Lemon Meringue cardstock using my MISTI and Oreo ink. I die cut these with Stitched Circle Stacklets and added a little bit of Gold Stickles here and there. As these dried I put together the rest of the tags adding decoration using Stitched Banner Stacklets and Pinking Circle Stacklets and Bloomin’ Stacklets 1. To finish off I cut hole reinforcements using Tag Reinforcements and added orange seam binding and twine along with a little tag for a name at the top.

My second Halloween gift project is a little candy gift bag using Tagging Along and Bag It and Tag It as well as Playful Patterns. I used Tag Stacklets 1 one for some extra laying on Tagging Along and then used Stitched Square Stacklets to cut the patterned paper and sentiment. I used two cuts of Stitched Banner Stacklets to create the double fish tail. The candy corn at the bottom are cut using the adorable new Little Bits Candy Corn. I finished off with a little tag from Designer Mini Tags to create a name tag. Now to go hide this from my son before he eats all the candy now since it has his name on it!! LOL!
