TTIC50: Charlie
“One of the best things about Charlie is that he doesn’t hover.”
~Bella Swan, Twilight.
This week the amazing, talented, sweet and hilarious Donna picked our TTIC Challenge theme. And she picked Charlie. Here’s what she said about the challenge:
Craft Portion: Create a project that represents Charlie’s and Bella’s relationship or a relationship you have with a ‘father’ figure in your life.
Comment Portion: Tell us about your relationship with a ‘father’ figure and why this bond is so special to you.
Well, I knew this challenge was immediately going to be emotional but I was still really excited to do the challenge. Sometimes these challenges that hit pretty close to home make me come up with some nice creations.
So as with any challenge the first thing I do is dig through my stamp stash and see what I have the fits. As I was digging I came across little fisher Ian here from The Greeting Farm and new he was what I wanted to use because it fit both my dad and Charlie. One of my fondest memories of my dad is going fishing as a child with him and my Grandfather (my mom’s Dad). We would get up ridiculously early in the morning and get Dad’s old metal fishing boat hooked up to the car while we waited for Grandpa to arrive. Then we head out to the lake to start fishing just as the sun came up. My brother and I were interested for about 30 minutes. Then we’d just hang out in the boat and read or scare the fish away is more likely. After a few hours Grandpa and Dad would get tired of Bill and I bickering and they take us for a ride around the ENORMOUS lake then we’d head back home for lunch and naps. Now this all sounds like a picturesque fishing trip, but some of the things that make me smile most about it is how much Dad and Grandpa used to get annoyed with each other, disagreeing over bait, where to fish, and who would drive… and they’d still keep planning fishing trips. I some how think they sort of liked their little sparring matches. Now I know, if you were to ask my mom she’d probably question my fond recollection of these fishing trips because I know there was whining involved but I guess sometimes time changes your perspective. I’d give a lot to go fishing with these to great men again.
So, before I mess up my makeup for work… here’s my project…

What a sweet card and beautiful memory! I have a similar set of memories – but they involved “ice fishing”
something that sends this tropical girl shivering! Cold was never “my thing”, lol! Nor was fishing
its funny how our dads took us anyway! And you’re right – time does change your perspective!
