on the subject of teeth and dentistry

i’m a bit disillusioned today. i’ve just returned from a visit to my dentist to get a permanent crown put on a tooth that I had filled just six month ago. why a crown now you ask, well it would appear that in the process of filling the tooth it cracked and then right before my next check up appointment half the tooth broke off. It didn’t hurt… I didn’t even feel it.

now today I’m looking at the possibility of a root canal on that tooth because it hurts to bite on that side where the temporary crown is. well, it’s the permanent crown with temporary cement because the bite was off on the temporary

did the quality of my teeth take a nose dive around the time I turned 30?

needless to say, I’m a bit bummed and in denial. this permanent crown doesn’t fit any better and it still hurts to chew on that side… granted that could be due to the fact that the crown shifts when I bite down and gets rammed up against what’s left of my tooth. but the point is i really don’t want a root canal. :(

keep your fingers crossed.

Oh Jen, I feel your pain! I had an abscessed tooth last winter and had a root canal. I don’t have a crown, but eventually they’ll have to put one on. I hate the dentist, but to be honest, the root canal wasn’t that bad. My dentist gave me a Rx to calm me down (one to sleep the night before, and one before the surgery), I watched a DVD while they did it, had someone pick me up, came home and slept for 10 hours. Nothing to it.

I need to find a place like that. I know I’m going to be a mess the day I have to go for this but there is no way around it, today has been miserable.

Ouch! Hope they can get you fixed up without the root canal.

Jen, I had a cracked tooth and had to have a crown more than 2 months ago and I still can’t chew normally on that side. My dentist said it could be up to 2 months for it to feel normal but I am concerned that I’m going to have further issues with that tooth. I never disliked going to the dentist until I had to get this crown. I woke up late the day of the appt. and had to rush myself and both kids out the door in 15mins which meant no makeup or breakfast for any of us and then I got a $100 traffic ticket on the way, then I had to sit there for 2 hours while they worked on me and it was uncomfortable. Ugh, that was a rotten day! I started falling apart at 35. I think my body realized my child birthing days were over and decided to just go ahead and give up. LOL
