Tiddly Inks Art Journaling Challenge

It’s time for a new Tiddly Ink’s Challenge and this week (and next week’s) challenge are to create an art journal page (or 2 in my case). When Christy issued this challenge I jumped right in and created the page I shared with you on Friday and then just kept right on going and made another one. :)

To start my pages I always glue two pages together to thicken them up using Mod Podge or Deco Art DecoPage and then gesso them so they don’t bleed all over the place. On this page, the next thing I did was spray some liquid watercolor over the page using a couple of different stencils. I put the liquid watercolor in a mini mister (I have about 12 of these and they are one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.) and spray it right over what ever mask or stencil I’m using, in this case I used punchinella (sequin waste) and a new stencil I just found at Michael’s… they had a brand new section at the one here with all kinds of cool modern art journaling stencils. I used a heat gun to dry the paint after letting it run a bit. I did dry the paint between each color. I used a toothbrush to drip on the black watercolor and dried it also. Next I used Neocolor 2 water soluble wax pastels to draw in the hearts and the blue circles. I ran over these with a damp paint brush to activate the crayons but not make a watery mess. I heat set the crayons to keep them from reactivating. Next I printed out You Are On My Mind using a laser printer and cut her out and decoupaged her to the page. I only put the decoupage on the back of the image so I could use the Neocolor pastels on top. You can see the paper I used as a little thin and the background water color bled through but I kind of like it. Lastly I added some stamping using some grunge capital letters from Recollections and a few 7 Gypsies stamps. Oh! And I added the border using a black Pitt Pen. :)

On Friday I shared this project using Poppy.

You can read all about that project here. If you’d like to join us you have two weeks to create a journal page using a Tiddly Inks stamp and link it back up to the Tiddly Inks Challenge blog. Christy has some FANTASTIC images that are great for journaling so if you have time give it a shot!

Be sure to check out what the rest of the Tiddly Inks DT made this week… they are all gorgeous!!

Art Journaling Friday

I made this spread this week. I worked a bit on it everyday. I started with the theme from the Greeting Farm HeArt Journaling… clouds. I started with a gessoed page and painted it with blue and white acrylic paint and I really didn’t like it so I lightly gessoed over it to tone it down. I decoupaged a few clouds that I cut out of dictionary pages. After that was all dry I mixed some blue, violet and green acrylic paint with water to make a wash and tilted my book up against a wall so the paint would drip down the page. Next I painted some bubble wrap and stamped it here and there around the page. I dipped a cup in paint and stamped that around the page as well, then I left it for a bit. The next day I came back and printed out Poppy from Tiddly Inks on copy paper using a laser printer. I made sure to print her large enough that she would fit the size of my 9″x12″ spread. I cut her out and decoupaged her down and painted her with acrylic paints. to finish up I stamped out the word dance and added hand written pieces of paper for the rest of the sentiment “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to DANCE in the rain.”… I just LOVE this sentiment. I added a few rain drops and edged the border with a NeoColor 2 black crayon.

I “think” that’s it! I really like how it turned out even though the picture doesn’t quite capture all of details. :) Here’s a closeup of the painting…

The shiny stuff on the right is iridescent medium… it gives a little sparkle, I forgot to mention that up top. :)
