TTIC44: Books!

This week the lovely Rebecca picked a fantastic theme for us… BOOKS!

Here’s the challenge:

Craft Challenge: Make any project that celebrates your favorite book!  It can be a project about a book, for a book, inspired by a book title or cover.

Comment  Challenge: Which novel would you put in Bella’s hands (classic or contemporary) for her to read? Did Twilight,  New Moon, Eclipse or Breaking Dawn inspire you to read (or re-read) any of the classics?  Do you compare Edward and Bella to that of Wuthering Heights Heathcliff and Cathy?

Well it would quite literally be impossible for me to pick a favorite book because they all seem to mean something special and different to me as I read them. And they are all usually my favorite when I’m reading them, lol. I loved Twilight, of course, but I also really loved Pride and Predjuidce and A Great and Terrible Beauty and Uglies because I can always see so vividly the world created soo… that leads me to my generic book related project:

A bookmark aptly stamped daydream. I would rather read a book than watch TV any day because I so easily get lost in the printed world. :D

Now what book would I give Bella to read… hmm. This is a tough question… haha, maybe the Sookie Stackhouse series, that would be a bit funny. ;)

Now go visit the other team members to see what they’ve been up to!

The Reader

The ReaderI just recently finished reading The Reader by Bernhard Schlink as part of a book club and I have to say the prognosis is not good. Had I not been trapped in a flying sardine can for 4 hours with only one book I’m fairly certain I would not have made it past about chapter 5. I did actually finish the book and it wasn’t until almost the last chapter that I began to feel something for these characters. I’m wishing I could tell you more about it but there’s not a lot to say that won’t give away some portion of the plot.

I was surprised at how excruciatingly painful it was to read in some parts and how blah in others. The author seems to have an odd habit of changing tense of voice randomly throughout the book, this may have had more than a small bearing on my overall dissatisfaction.

It makes me wonder what all the hype has been about. I realize the topic is somewhat provacative but the story itself is more than a little disturbing. I appologize that this review is a little cryptic but I really don’t want to give away the plot.

If you’ve read it, what did you think?
