Deconstructed Sketch 109
Things have finally slowed down around these parts. We’ve settled in and are getting into a nice routine of playing with new friends, visiting the pool and just hanging out. It’s wonderful! Now I just need to ignore the date on the calendar looming that says school will start back up again soon. Summer sure does fly by! Now, lets get to it:
Sketch Guidelines:
Are you ready for Deconstructed Sketch 109? I hope you like it! Here’s the scoop on what you need to do:
1. Use the sketch up top to make a project, any kind you like using any image you like. Use the sketch to inspire your own creativity. Feel free to substitute shapes for what you have available and mount tags and circles to a card base if you’d prefer.
2. Post it somewhere on the internet (your blog, SCS, Flickr, etc). Use keyword DS109 if you post to an online gallery like Splitcoaststampers.
3. Link back here to Inlinkz at the bottom of the post so I can stop by and see it.
For my card I made a birthday card for my soon to be 15 year old nephew. He’s a big Minecraft fan so I made him a custom image and this week’s sketch could not have been more perfect to go with it! I started by printing out some light pink 1/4″ grid paper (you print free grid paper online). From there I colored Minecraft Steve with Copics following an image I found online. Here’s my list of Copics if you want to give it a shot – Hair: E49, E39, E29, E25, E37, E35; Skin: E11, E13, E15, E00, E04; Eyes: BV17. To match the tones as close as I could I did do a lot of layering of colors so some experimenting is necessary. 🙂 I trimmed him out and set him aside and built the background out of strips of cardstock to represent the different landscape blocks in Minecraft. To emulate the pixelated look of Minecraft I embossed the background using the Tim Holtz Alterations Grid Lock Embossing Folder. The talk bubble is from Taylored Expressions Delightful Day stamp and Conversation Bubbles dies. I used a tone of foam tape to separate the layers and added a bit of aqua sequins to create diamond ore blocks.
Card Supplies:
Stamps: Delightful Day (Taylored Expressions)
Dies: Delightful Day Conversation Bubbles (Taylored Expressions), Classic Circles (Spellbinders)
Paper: Kraft, Aqua, Green, Brown, Dark Brown, Grey, Dark Grey, Black, Choice Snow White Cardstock
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics (See above for Copic numbers)
Accessories: Foam Tape, Sequins, Grid Lock embossing folder (Tim Holtz/Ranger), 3M Quick Dry Adhesive
