Baker's Dozen Studio Challenge

It’s time for the Baker’s Dozen Studio Challenge.  This is a monthly opportunity for the Taylored Expressions team to share what makes our stamping studios hum.  Each month we  have a fun, crafty question so we can share our favorites, some tips and tricks, stamping advice and more.

The question for June is:

What’s on your summer reading list?  Are you a big reader or not?  If you are, what books have you read lately that you would recommend?  Do you have a favorite author or genre? How about something for sitting out by the pool, or the beach, or even just the backyard…some nice light summer reading?

Do you use fancy bookmarks or do you dog-ear your pages?  Or, do you use an e-reader? Everyone can use bookmarks and they make great favors and gifts.  Let’s see a little inspiration!

This challenge is right up my alley! I’ve always been a big reader and it’s a running joke in my house that I read roughly a book a week and you never see me with the same book twice (which lately is untrue but if my schedule was cleared I would definitely do that). To tackle this assignment I decided to make a bookmark for Evey who also is a big reader. We are currently in the process of reading the Harry Potter books as a family and Evey LOVES Hermione. She is working on a pretty good impression of Hermione from the movies and is frequently found walking around saying in a perfect accent “You could have gotten yourself killed or worse, expelled!!” That lead me to Moka Gwen (though I did toss around the idea of Moka Tabitha) who just also happened to have the perfect sentiment to go on a bookmark.

Start of the school year bookmark

I colored Gwen to have the coloring of Hermione in her preppy school uniform. The background papers are from Doodlebug Take Note 6×6 pad (which I ADORE). The base is made of kraft cardstock. I used a jumbo eyelet for the ribbon loop at the top. I left this pretty clean and simple because I know this bookmark will get used a lot by my 9 year old so I don’t want things to get in her way. 🙂

Gwen was stamped on Choice Snow White cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copics. The bookmark was die cut using the Banner Stacklets 2 dies as well as the Fly Your Flag 2 die.
