TGF is ready for SUMMER!

Who’s READY for some SUMMER FUN?!?

I am! I am! We heard ya over at The Greeting Farm, too, because Oliver and Amelia are already on the task at hand to bring YOU some SUMMER FUN!

Introducing….Oliver/Amelia SUMMER FUN!

I LOVE this set because …. Oliver and Amelia in this set look so much like my own two little ones I just love it. I’m going to have to find a way to alter Amelia so she can wear that snorkel because Evey spent 95% of vacation with her head under water snorkeling around the swimming pool! Ben got a kick out of it too!

With that in mind I created this card using the adorable Oliver.

Oliver is colored using Copics on some new paper I picked up yesterday. I know, I spent yesterday’s post raving about Recollections white cardstock but I think I’ve found my all time favorite paper and it’s a bit different that the others. Every time I go to Walmart or any store that sells paper I find myself checking out the cardstock even if I know I’ll never buy it. Well today we made a trip to Walmart and I found some Southworth Linen Coverstock and it had this gorgeous texture and a 25% rag content and I thought… hmm, it’s only 65 lb but with 25% cotton it should work well. So I snagged a box for $7.00 (80 sheets) and decided to try it out. Well first thing I learned is that our laser printer does not like this paper even though the box said it’s laser friendly it’s not with our printer. The toner flaked off and it left little black dots everywhere on the paper. BUT my inkjet and inked up stamps LOVED it. I’ve never seen paper accept ink this well. Every impression I made with it came out perfect with very little noticeable bleed and the lines stayed dark (a pet peeve of mine). When I pulled out my Copics to try it I immediately noticed that this paper is a bit more absorbent than cs but not much but I also noticed that the ink didn’t spread a lot (love that) but it blended wonderfully. It does have a noticeable variance between wet and dry so you do have to be a bit patient to see the final outcome but I really liked it and found it to be quite forgiving and have a gorgeous texture and blend with the markers. It also accepted Distress Ink really well and embossed nicely in my Big Shot. It very much reminded my of my Bristol Board but with a whiter color and textured finish… not to mention half as thick so it’s much easier to cut by hand with scissors. If you are looking for a paper to try this might be one to check out… and it’s pretty cheap. 🙂

Okay, sorry about the tangent there :). I colored Oliver to match My Mind’s Eye’s Lime Twist Fly a Kite paper (LOVE this paper). I pulled up a reference photo on Google images to color the snorkel… I wanted to get the clear look right on the sides of the goggles. I used this week’s Deconstructed Sketch for the layout and a bit of Peeled Paint Distress Ink as an accent otherwise it’s very clean and simple without a lot of fuss, perfect for a boy.
