Hi Friend by Jen Shults, handmade card using Color Thowdown #329 and Verve Stamps

Color Throwdown #329 & 7 Days of Love Day 4!!

Hi everyone! I’m back today with another addition to my 7 Days of Love with the FANTASTIC Sankari Wegman and this card also happens to be my sample for this week’s Color Throwdown where I am SO EXCITED to be guest designing. I love this fantastic challenge and it’s ability to force me out of my usual color pairings into brighter and bolder color schemes!!

Hi Friend by Jen Shults, handmade card using Color Thowdown #329 and Verve Stamps

This card went through a lot of transitions and lives as I was working on it. I love this color combo now that my card is done but I won’t lie – it gave me some fits when I was working with it. I started originally with a white card base but scrapped it half way through for something stronger so I opted for the aqua color – one of my little color balancing secrets is I like to try to use each color twice in the card – usually once large and once small and I ended up going with an aqua cardbase because it needed that larger presence of aqua in the card. So back to it, after I got the cardbase squared away I changed my mind on which flower stamps to use 3 times, once after getting them fully colored. THEN I started with one set of leaves, didn’t love it, cut another set and ended up using both of them together in the card. WHEW. It was a hard fought battle but I hope I won. 😉

My layout is a slightly modified version of Karen’s Sweet Sunday Sketch #255!

This is also my card for 7 Days of LOVE! You can’t leave your friends out on Valentine’s Day BUT you don’t always want to send hearts and romantic script so what better than a few flowers and a nice hello to a dear friend!

  5. Beautiful card Jen. Love the coloring on the sweet flowers… the striped border piece looks amazing… and I just {heart} that little tag. Great way of using the colors.

I think the two sets of leaves were perfect. It really is, over all, a very nice card. Good to get out of the box once in a while!

Bold and beautiful! It just shouts “happy” to me! Loved that you described your thought process on the colors. Have to say, I struggled with this combo, too. You succeeded and I still need a do over on mine – lol!

  9. Well, my name on the previous post should have been Wanda! I think I hit a wrong button too soon! 🙂
