Create Your Own Background

Hello by Jen Shults

Hi everyone! I hope the start of your week is going well. Today I’m sharing a card I made using a watercolor background I created a while back for The Daily Marker Pop Up Challenge. I had a lot of fun creating this background and I am so happy with how this card came out.

How to Create Your Own Background:

To create the background I drew out the line design in pencil on watercolor paper (Strathmore 400 series cold press #140 paper) and then used a Sharpie Pen to go over the lines and add varied thickness to the lines. I used Distress Markers and a waterbrush to add the fill color.

The next step in the process was to die cut the hello die out of the watercolor background (save all of the pieces) and also cut it out of black cardstock 3 times. I used this die from Simon Says Stamp.  I also cut a heart out of red cardstock. I used Heart Stacklets from Taylored Expressions.

To assemble I adhered the large pieces of the watercolor panel to an A2 cardbase. I then inlayed one of the black Hello die cuts in the hole that was left from cutting the Hello out of the watercolor paper. I put the negative watercolor pieces back in their spots. Then I glued down the remaining two black Hello cuts and the top watercolor Hello cut. I added the heart over the center of the swirl with a foam dot and I was done.
