HeArt Journaling Pages

I’m just popping in today to share some art journaling pages that I’m falling behind on sharing. Some I like and some I really want to paint over and try again with.

So I’m of the opinion that is best to start with the work and finish on a high note, lol. The theme for this one was summer/beach/sand and I don’t like how it turned out. I used Inktense pencils on gessoed paper and it started out good and then I started drawing on it and writing on it and I don’t like it. I think it just needs more but I haven’t figured out yet what more it needs. There are parts I do like… the border and the ocean scribbles but the words need some toning down and it’s just symmetrical and boring right now.

This page I really really like (and I love how the photo came out, lol). I started with gessoed paper covered in dictionary pages that I inked with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink and then I gessoed it again to tone it down. I went back with more Worn Lipstick and Vintage Photo to the edges to give them more color. Then I stamped with Tim Holtz Bitty Grunge stamps around the edge in StazOn and Worn Lipstick. (Heat set the Distress Inks otherwise they stay wet for a while.) I added a bit of tissue tape and some journaling and a heart to the middle and I LOVE how it looks!

Here are some details:

This last one is my favorite. It’s much more arty than my other ones and I really like how it ended up.

This was pretty difficult to photograph because it’s covered in Mod Podge and iridescent medium so it’s very reflective. I started with gessoed paper and used Peeled Paint Distress Stain to tint the paper. I then applied some alcohol ink straight from the dropper around the page. I went over that with blue and brown acrylic paint (Liquitex Basics… I really like this brand for journaling… it has a good body but is mostly transparent when you want it to be). I added a bit of iridescent medium at this point (also Liquitex Basics). The face is hand drawn on a separate sheet of paper using Pitt Pens and was decoupaged on with Matte Mod Podge. After attaching the face I used brown paint and punchinella (sequin waste) to add the dots and I stamped some butterflies in StazOn Timber Brown ink. Next I added the strips of torn dictionary pages with more Mod Podge then I stamped the shadow and sunshine words, outlined them with white Sharpie paint marker and a sepia Pitt Pen and added the hand written rest of the sentiment. I LOVE how this came out. It’s all over the place and tied together at the same time. 🙂
