Season of Crafting – Inks

The project I’m sharing with you today features some of my favorite TE inks and a new technique I discovered accidentally when cleaning up a stencil the other day.
For this card I started with a piece of watercolor paper. I’m not sure of the brand, it was just a piece of pre-cut A2 watercolor paper I had in my stash (I do this a lot with scraps of watercolor paper from my classroom!). I started by ink-blending Eggplant, Jelly Donut and Passion Fruit ink on the watercolor paper in a random pattern throughout the paper – my only goal was to fully cover the paper and to have the different colors clearly visible. After ink blending I layered a bit more ink through the Pretty Petals Stencil using Eggplant and Passion Fruit ink.
So now that new technique I discovered…. If you splatter TE ink with rubbing alcohol it gives a lift-off splatter effect!!! I discovered this when cleaning a stencil the other day with rubbing alcohol. I sprayed the stencil and some of the over-spray hit the background paper and immediately reacted a bit like bleach leaving a splatter effect. After a bit of experimenting, I discovered I could recreate the effect on watercolor paper consistently. So, the next thing I did to the background was use a paintbrush to splatter rubbing alcohol over the watercolor paper. No need to blot with a paper towel as it dries and reacts quickly.
To highlight the background as the star of the show I stamped the large leaf from bold branches on Sugar Cube with Versafine Clair ink and heat embossed with clear and die cut with the coordinating die. The sentiment was stamped on Oreo and heat embossed in white from the Just Saying stamp set.
