Summer School FUN!! Part 2

With Sympathy, handmade card

I’m back with the second half of my cards from MFT’s Summer School challenge (that was a couple week ago — oops! I’m late!!). The final two cards unintentionally look a lot alike – I ended up using very similar color palettes because I LOVE orange and flower go well with orange so… you’ll see. 🙂

The four challenge of the week was complementary colors so I paired blue and orange. I always feel like it’s okay to fiddle with the colors in a color arrangement a little bit… if I use color wheel orange then I’ll likely use a variation of blue instead of the color wheel blue because that can be too much. The green is an innocent bystander by virtue of the leaves though I do think it helps balance the overall look – rule of threes and all that. 🙂

This last card ended up being my favorite of the week! I used a similar color scheme to the last one with the addition of a pinky/coral. The challenge for day 5 was symmetry. I’m not a big fan of straight up fold down the middle symmetry, I think it can be a little visually boring if the focal point isn’t WOW. Thankfully these gorgeous flower stamps helped a lot with that!!

I used Fancy Flowers which was from a MFT card kit a few years ago. I’m batting a thousand on retired stamp sets this week, lol. But if they are good they are good, you know!

  1. Those flowers are absolutely stunning. I tend more toward asymmetry – but I totally see what you mean about a strong focal point!
