Taylored Expressions | Fall Y’all!
Morning! I hope everyone is staying cool. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster week – we have been having crazy high humidity mixed with high temps here in the Missouri and it’s been pretty miserable. My daughter, who we just dropped at college in her first apartment, called Sunday night to say her AC was out and it was hovering at about 87 degrees in their apartment. She’s in Arkansas and where she’s at has thankfully been a little milder than here. And extra thankfully, the maintenance people responded quickly, and put in a portable AC unit until they can replace the condenser for her apartment – hopefully today.
So lets talk cards. I have three projects to share with you today using Taylored Expressions new fall release – and it is a STUNNING release.
This first card features a new die set, Garden Variety Prairie. I love this set and it is a fabulous addition to the Garden Variety collection as it adds some wonderful height to the floral arrangement possibilities. Now I do have to admit to not realizing the two longest dies in the set were fuzzy willow branches – and now that I know I’m super bummed I didn’t use them correctly – but the good news is they look great when you use them wrong too! HAHA!
I kept the overall card pretty simple and focused on arranging the branches – which is admittedly not a quick process for me – slow crafter here, lol. To add some interest in the background I did some tone on tone ink blending with Honey ink on Honey cardstock. After blending I splattered with a custom mix of Toffee and Mulled Wine Liquid Watercolor and gold water color from the Gansai Tambi Starry collection.

My second project features more gear for the super cute Gnome Sweet Gnome set – Fall Y’all Dress Up. I love these little Gnomes, they are so fun to create and they make cute little decorations to sneak around your house. I have been known to hide them around the house and see which kid finds them first, lol. They are great to also cut apart and use in cards and tags individually!
So let’s take a closer look at the Gnomes. I kept to a pretty solid fall color palette and added a few accents here and there with OLO markers to give the gnomes some pop. You could also use Copic Markers, ink blending, or a gel pen to add accents as well.
The colors I used are listed out here (I fear some of these cardstock colors may be retired – but the inks remain so you could swipe the ink on Sugar Cube and use the colors that way): Toffee (base), Mocha, Olive (cardstock retired), Pumpkin, Cherry Pop, Pineapple, Peapod, Peaches & Cream (OLO marker on top to achieve different tones), Sea Salt, Buttercream Frosting and Sugar Cube. This last project is a bit of a bonus project – it’s an extra design I put together with my left overs from the first card along with some pieces from Garden Variety – Fall. I started this card by blending tone on tone with Tropical Punch ink on Tropical Punch cardstock and splattering with gold watercolor. I cut out a BUNCH of elements from Garden Variety – Fall and Garden Variety – Prairie. I did a bit of ink blending on the leaves to give them some depth. This time I chose to use the Rustic Pail die as a base to hold the arrangement. I love this die, we had one of these pails on the front step of my house growing up for YEARS. My mom used to plant huge flower arrangements in it every single year. I think it eventually rotted out along the bottom but it lasted for a good 20 years!
After getting the leaves and branches all arranged I did a little more splattering on the leaves and added a sentiment from All Together Occasions 2 foiled with gold foil.
On the inside I used The Insiders – Thanksgiving along with a few left over die cuts from the front of the card. With a little ink blending it’s all set and ready to mail!
