Taylored Expressions | Welcome to Summer!!
Hi everyone and happy Tuesday! It’s Taylored Expressions release day and that means new projects to share and new goodies to explore! This week I have some fun summer themed cards for you. First up is a pair of cards using the new Flying High collection from TE.
I made two cards with essentially the same design in two coordinating color schemes – Toffee, Honey, Spearmint and Poblano Pepper (with some different inks to get the right colors on the Toffee) and Sugar Cube, Honey, Peaches & Cream and Bubblegum. I stenciled the pink card on Sugar Cube with the Flying High Stamp & Stencil Clear Combo and cut the cardstock kites with the Let’s Go Fly A Kite Die collection.
I did a little decorating to the insides of each card with left over supplies from the front (I always try to do this when possible!).
For the blue-green card I did a little experimenting with inks on Toffee to get as closer to the cardstock colors so the inks and cardstock are not the same. For this I used Mint Julep and Tropical Punch ink to mimic Spearmint and Poblano Pepper cardstock.
The striped panels on each card are stencilled using my beloved and mosted used stencils – Stencil Strips Love and Stencil Strips Holiday. These sets are EXCELLENT for making accents that perfectly match the colors you are using on your cards and each one comes with a variety of stencils that can be used any time of year.

Next up in our summer themed card collection is a super cute set of dies – Happy Camper! This new dies and sentiment collections coordinate with the previously released Serene Scenes Cutting Plate. The camping dies are found in Serene Scenes – Camping Additions. I started this card by die cutting all of the scene elements I planned to use and setting them aside. I then cut 4 of the Serene Scenes Cutting Plate to create a layered shadow box. Each layer has a different element of the scene attached to it and I layered these together using pieces of 1×3 Foam Tape Strips Thin (must be the thin) so the card wasn’t too thick and had just a little extra element of dimension.
The night sky was created using Blue Corn, Blueberry, Jelly Donut and Plum Punch ink blended on Sugar Cube and then splatter with isopropyl alcohol and Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bleed Proof White.
The front of the card was made with Toffee Woodgrain cardstock cut with the Serene Scenes Cutting Plate and lightly inked with Olive ink. This really brought out the woodgrain without darkening the cardstock too much.

My last summer themed card for today uses a new must have sentiment with coordinating die – Oh My Word – Welcome. For this card I made an acetate front card by splitting the front of a horizontal card base and attaching acetate in the middle. When attaching acetate be sure to use strong tape adhesive like X-Press It High Tack (1/8″). Liquid adhesive can take a long time to dry and I struggle to get tape runner adhesive to be strong enough for the acetate.
To create the flower cluster I paired Layer It – Daisy with Garden Variety (this pair is a perfect match!!). I did a little tiny bit of subtle ink blending on the flowers for extra dimension.
On the inside of the card I added a Sugar Cube panel blended with Poblano Pepper ink. (I’m ona Poblano Pepper kick this week, lol!) Along the edges of the acetate I added some 1/8″ wide strips of gold glitter cardstock. I cut these with a trimmer but you could use the Easy Strips dies for this to make it quick and perfect.
The sentiment is from Oh My Word – Welcome, stamped on Sugar Cube with Oreo ink and die cut with the coordinating die. The “to retirement” sentiment is part of Oh My Word – Welcome and is die cut with the Sentiment Strips dies.
